Yes, I deleted Facebook App

I recently tracked my phone activities and found out that I have been using Facebook and YouTube excessively.

I tried a zillion ways to reduce my usage but all in vain. So, finally I uninstalled Facebook and put strict 9–6 time for YouTube.

I wanted to delete YouTube app too but in android phone, it is a default app and you can’t delete or uninstall it. So, I am using appblock to limit its usage.

With Facebook addiction the main problem lies in Notification.

You get notified of everything trivial. Your friends uploaded a picture, someone shared a meme, birthdays of people, your friend-anniversary with someone you hardly know, their stories, their dog’s birthday and so on.

And most of the details are simply non important.

I am a forgetful person, so the birthday reminder is a great feature for me and I miss it. But the rest are just junk to your mind.

Second thing that I noticed after uninstalling Facebook is that hardly 4–5 people tagged me in some meme or post so far.

When I was active on Facebook, my half of the time was spared in tagging friends and letting them know I miss them or I like or dislike what habits of them. But, to an utter surprise, no one tagged me in any post so far.

It is a very liberating experience to know that what I supposed to be the biggest challenge- my friends who were in my touch with this app the most, were hardly bothered about my absence.

So next time when you excuse yourself by saying what will happen to my friends if I quit FB? Don’t worry about them. They’ve places to be and your presence is hardly felt on this 2.23 billion user’s land.

And, this boils down to the point that people on social media aren’t real friends. If they are, they’ll call you or connect with you anyhow.

Yes, I have missed few birthdays. But still nothing important has been missed yet.

I open the app once a day in chrome browser and go through the feeds and notifications roughly.

But I must admit that the prime reason for which I uninstalled Facebook has not been fulfilled yet — improved productivity.

I just keep switching to other platforms like Quora, Medium, LinkedIn etc.

Appblock is helpful but still I would say it’s not Facebook addiction, it’s phone addiction that doesn’t let me focus on important things.

Even now when I am writing this article, my newspaper is lying besides my hand post and I haven’t read it from last three days as I am sick and demotivated to read it.

Put the cookie down and eat your salads.

If I find something to stay motivated to complete goals for better productivity I’ll let you know.
