Who Made IIT?
IITs were not made by any person. IITs came into existence after Institute of technology act, 1961. This act declared IITs as institution of national importance and vested powers, duties, and framework for governance.
Hence, IITs are neither private nor government institutes, they are autonomous, and they have power to make their own rules and frameworks.
What IIT stands for?
IIT stands for Indian Institute of Technology. Many students mistake ITI or IIIT for IITs, but these two institutes have nothing common with Indian Institute of Technology apart from the syllables of the Name.
Who established IIT in India?
The concept of the IITs was first introduced in a report in the year 1945 by Sh. N.M.Sircar, then member of Education on Vicerory’s Executive Council. So, not exactly he established IITs but the Idea of IIT is a brainchild of Mr. Sircar.
When IIT started in India?
First IIT was established way back in 1951, when in Kharagpur a institute was established keeping the recommendation of Sircar committee in view.
The institute was initially set up in Calcutta but then it was moved to Hijli, Kharagpur. There were 224 freshers and 42 teachers in August 1951 when the first session started.
Interestingly, the report suggested the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions of India.
So, coming next in row Institutes of Technology at Bombay, Madras, Kanpur and Delhi were also established with collaborations with USSR, West Germany, USA and UK respectively.
When IIT Exam started?
IIT Exam – Joint Entrance Exam for Engineering UG courses started in 1960. Needless to mention, now it is one of the most popular exams in the country with more than one million appearing in it every year.
Who Makes IIT Papers?
Who sets IIT paper is a very intriguing question that comes across the mind of students at least once when they are appearing for the entrance exam.
Be it JEE, JAM or GATE; IITs do not reveal the details of faculty members who make the paper. There might be several reasons behind concealing the identity of these faculty members like security concerns.
The question paper is not set up by a single IIT. A team of professors from different IITs is chosen by the organising institute. The team sets paper at one of the residential campus at IIT.
Who Conducts IIT JEE Exam?
IIT JEE Exam is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Guwhati) under guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). After introducing JEE Mains, the exam was held under the cap of CBSE but recently NTA took over it.

Who owns IITs?

Among all IITs, IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus of 2100 acres. It is also the oldest IIT. Its buildings were designed under the guidance of a Swiss architect.
What IIT Students Do? Are IIT Students Smarter?
With the selection rate of less than 1%, IIT Students are considered intelligent and smart that they got through the exam. However, like any other institute, IITs have all type of students. There are geniuses, averages and low scoring students in each batch. What differentiate these students from others is the prestigious IIT tag.
Are IITs overrated?
The idea behind formation of IITs was to bring high level research and technology institutes in India possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. With time, IITs proved their forte and value.
Are IIT professors Rich?
IIT professors have many perks and benefits along with plush salary. The salary is variable in various IITs. We may say the older IITs offer better salary. Here, I would like to share a blog by Brijesh Kumar, Assistant Professor at IIT Roorkee who has written a wonder blog titled – IIT assistant professor “package” is Rs. 16,25,77,965.60. They are not gazetted officers but they are equally respected.
On an average, the salary of an Assistant Professor is 70-80K in IITs.
