A Clean Desk is a Sign of a Cluttered Desk Drawer.
I was reading some funny workplace quotes when I came across an apt one liner which goes like this:
A clean desk is a sign of a cluttered desk drawer.
I smirked when I realised it’s so me. At the office, my desk was the cleanest. Partly, because I liked it clean and arranged & partly because the seating arrangement was changed so many times that I lost interest in decorating my desk.
So, my clean desk had a drawer. It was like the Doraemon’s pocket. It had 3 notepads, salt, some other spices, dash-pins, pictures of ex employees, a soft toy to whom I called Snoopy and zillion of other things I can’t recall now.
I would put everything excess on my desk in this drawer and the perception of a clean desk was maintained.
My drawer was so cluttered that whenever I would open it, things would float out of it.
Now, when I am doing my studies and freelance work from home, I can say things have changed a lot.
Firstly, I never felt that happy and liberated in my whole life. As I had time to think and do new stuff. I started with my drawer.
I arranged my books in a spacious bag and packed the least read books in a protective packaging.
I gave away my some books to needy students.
As I proceeded with this approach, I saw a lot of pointless things around me. I took some time to juxtapose the useful and utterly useless stuff from my cupboard.
Marie Kondo’s videos and blogs were my sources to accomplish this.
I made some tough decisions as well. Giving up the books was the hardest among them.
The method of tidying up the house
I felt good at the end. I found space for new bought items and I said adios to my not so favourite items.
Clutter weighs you down, you don’t realise, but it does.
By getting rid of useless stuff, you manifest purposeful things in your life. Giving away makes you realise, how you spent money on something that wasn’t needed. To save your self from more heart breaks, you are mindful while buying more stuff.
It wasn’t lesser than a life changing experience. I have not been happier in my life.
So, my point of writing this article was to tell y’all that superficial cleaning won’t serve the purpose. It would create a bubble of satisfaction that bursts when the reality pokes.
